Over the years, Yamaha has shown various iterations of the so-called unmanned helicopter, including the R-Bat developed in partnership with Northrop Grumman and the agriculture-minded Fazer R G2. The Fazer R G2 model was also used in a seafood delivery trial with Japan Airlines in 2020.
The latest addition to the company’s unmanned helicopters is basically a redesigned Fazer R G2, or simply the Fazer R G2 Delivery Model. Yamaha equipped the aircraft with a larger and redesigned main rotor, which is 1.8 meters in length, which is longer than the original 1.56 meters.
This produces more thrust and works with a lighter camera system and battery, which, along with optimized fuel tank capacity, provides a 50kg (110lb) payload, which is significantly higher than the original 35kg (77lb) many. As Yamaha points out, that means it can haul a ton of material in 20 strokes, compared to the 29 required for the original model.
Putting work into construction sites saves time and reduces labor costs. For example, it could also expand the range that planes can deliver to homes in mountains. Yamaha will be showcasing its new aircraft at the Drone Summit September 1-2 at the Kobe International Exhibition Hall.
