For users of the Dev channel of the Windows Insider project, Microsoft today released a preview update for Windows 11 Build 22494.This preview version belongs to the rs_prerelease development branch, and one of the most noteworthy new features is that the taskbar allows users to mute and unmute the microphone of an application.
Windows 11 Build 22494 isMicrosoftA new mute and unmute switch has been added to the team’s taskbar. This new feature seems to be based on the “Universal Mute” button announced in the Windows event, but it is currently limited to Microsoft Teams for work and personal accounts.
Starting with today’s preview update, you can finally mute and unmute the microphone directly from the taskbar to avoid the awkward moments when using Teams. When you are in a team meeting, you will find a new microphone icon on the taskbar, allowing you to see the audio status and quickly mute and unmute the call.
This icon will appear when you are actively participating in a Teams meeting and can be accessed at any time, but it will not work with third-party applications, at least for now. Microsoft promises that if other communication applications, such as Zoom and Skype, want to use the upcoming universal mute feature of Windows 11, they can also add this feature to their applications.
