Obviously, the newly added “Personal Information and Authority” is a compliance adjustment made by WeChat in response to the requirements of the Personal Information Protection Law. For example, if you want to turn off the push of personalized advertisements, you need to enter the “WeChat Privacy Protection Guidelines” document, and find the closed entry in the densely packed clause text. This time, “Personalized Advertising Management” is treated as a special function, which is taken out separately, and users can directly turn off personalized advertising.
“Personal information browsing and export” is also an important feature of this update. Among them, users can clearly see what personal information WeChat holds.
Currently, the personal information that can be browsed in WeChat mainly includes two types. One is the information that users actively enter, such as avatars, WeChat IDs, personalized signatures, cell phoneNumber, area, receiving address, etc. The other is the information left by the user during the process of using WeChat, including the device that has logged in and the version of WeChat used.
In the “Personal Information” interface, users can select “Export Personal Information”. WeChat will send personal information to the user’s mailbox in an encrypted manner within 72 hours.
After receiving the email, the user clicks on the verification link to enter the dedicated page to browse and view personal information at one time, or download the information package for storage. Note that the “verification link” is time-effective and can no longer be used after it expires; a password is required to open the information package, and the password must be saved.
The content of the exported personal information is basically the same as the content seen in the client. However, WeChat exports more personal information, including data such as address book and Moments.
We know that the platform holds a lot of information about users, but what does this information refer to? How accurate is it? On the platform, is personal information “streaking”? Related issues have caused a lot of speculation. “Personal information browsing and export” may be understood as a response from WeChat.
Many users said after seeing their personal information, “It turns out that WeChat holds so much information about me.” The name, phone number and home address are all available. If the account is lost, it will be more dangerous. Some users are curious as a result. The original information held by WeChat is “just this”, which is not the same as the accurate user portraits imagined.
