Understand the difference between the two 35W dual C port chargers of Apple A2579 and A2676 in one article

Although the official price of these two chargers is 399 yuan, they are also equipped with dual C ports and have the same output performance, but the appearance design is very different. In addition to the intuitive and different impressions of the innovative “jelly” shape and the classic block shape, there are still many people who wonder if there are other differences, or which one to choose when buying.

The following charging head network makes a detailed comparison of these two Apple chargers, so that you can understand more of their differences.

Product appearance packaging


Apple A2579 and A2676 two charger boxes are basically the same except for the appearance of the front charger, including the product name, model, production date, etc.

Exterior


The top surface and side of the Apple A2579 charger is an integrated white bright surface shell, and the bottom is a gray shell. The overall shape is like a “jelly”, and the flat cut surface design at the bottom can fit well with wall plugs or power sockets, and is stable in use.

The Apple A2676 charger is designed in a classic square shape. The corners of the bright surface shell are rounded and it is also equipped with folding pins, but it is a classic detachable independent module design. In order to improve stability, two wings are added on both sides.

Size/Power Density


The three-dimensional measurement of the Apple A2579 charger is 49.4*49.38*28.01mm, and the power density is about 0.51W/cm³; the three-dimensional measurement of the Apple A2676 charger is 56.06*56.01*28.59mm, and the power density is about 0.39W/cm³. Front layout of internal structure


The Apple A2579 charger is a dual-channel independent power supply design, corresponding to two independent transformers and output filter capacitors. The input terminal is powered by a connector, which meets Apple’s design for multi-country plugs. Only one PCBA module can meet the requirements of all parts of the world. Production of power supplies without redesign.

The Apple A2676 charger PCBA module is divided into an AC power supply part and a DC step-down part. The ground wire is fixed on the T-type fixed terminal with screws. The output of the transformer is directly welded to the step-down small board. After synchronous rectification and filtering on the small board, the voltage drop Voltage circuit power supply, additionally insulated with a separate plastic case.

There is a synchronous rectifier tube on the back of the Apple A2579 charger motherboard, and the VBUS switch tube and primary components are all symmetrically configured. There is a rectifier bridge and a primary switch tube on the back of the Apple A2676 charger motherboard.

Primary controller for work materials


The two-way switching power supply main control chips of the Apple A2579 charger are all from PI, and the silk screen ZN1431C is a customized model for Apple. The chip integrates primary controller, high-voltage switch tube, synchronous rectification controller and feedback function, with high integration, simplified peripheral devices, and simplified design of fast charging source circuit.

The primary main control chip of Apple A2676 charger adopts Apple’s customized controller, silk screen APSLC01, which is used in Apple’s new 30W charger and 96W charger.

Synchronous Rectifier Controller


The Apple A2579 charger synchronous rectifier controller is integrated in the PI main control chip, and the Apple A2676 charger synchronous rectifier controller screen prints TEV.

Protocol chip


Apple’s A2579 and A2676 charger protocol chips both use Infineon’s CYPD4236-LQXQT, which belongs to the EZ-PD CCG4 series. The edge of the latter pad is reinforced with white hard glue.

This protocol chip supports dual-port fast charging applications and provides two complete USB PD interface applications, which can be used in notebook, adapter and docking station applications. EZ-PD CCG4 adopts Cypress’s proprietary M0S8 technology, built-in 32-bit ARM M0 processor, with 128KB flash memory and 8KB memory, using 6*6mm 40pin QFN package,

Primary switch tube


The Apple A2579 charger high-voltage switch is integrated in the PI main control chip, and the Apple A2676 charger’s high-voltage switch adopts AOS AONV180A60, which is a NMOS with a withstand voltage of 700V, a conduction resistance of 160mΩ, and a DFN8*8 package.

Synchronous Rectifier


The synchronous rectifier tube of Apple A2579 charger adopts AOS AONS62920, which is an NMOS with a withstand voltage of 100V, a conduction resistance of 6.3mΩ, and a DFN5*6 package. The Apple A2676 charger synchronous rectifier tube adopts Infineon BSC093N15NS5, which is a NMOS with a withstand voltage of 150V, a conduction resistance of 9.3mΩ, and a SuperSO8 package.

capacitance


The Apple A2579 charger uses three electrolytic capacitors for filtering, two of which are 400V 22μF from AiSHi. Another filter electrolytic capacitor is from CapXon Fengbin, the specification is 10μF 400V. The Apple A2676 charger is filtered by three CapXon Fengbin electrolytic capacitors, all of which are 22μF 400V.


The Apple A2579 charger uses two Fengbin solid capacitors for synchronous rectification and output filtering. It is a PS series conductive polymer capacitor with a heat resistance of 105°C and a specification of 560μF 25V. The Apple A2676 charger uses Nichicon FP series solid capacitors for output filtering, 270μF 25V.

Synchronous Buck Controller


Another big difference between the Apple A2676 charger and the A2579 is that the output has two synchronous buck circuits. The synchronous buck controller adopts MPS MP9928, which is a current mode synchronous buck controller that supports 60V input. Half-bridge NMOS driver, programmable operating frequency of 100kHz-1MHz, supports phase inversion output, supports cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection, has output overvoltage protection function and high-precision overheat protection function.

Synchronous Buck Switch


The Apple A2676 charger synchronous buck switch adopts ON Semiconductor FDMC007N30D, which is a dual NMOS transistor with asymmetric structure and a half-bridge connection inside, which is suitable for synchronous buck applications. The withstand voltage of the two internal MOS tubes is 30V, the conduction resistance of the upper tube of the step-down is 11.6mΩ, and the conduction resistance of the lower tube is 6.4mΩ.

Using ChargerLAB POWER-Z KT002 to measure Apple A2579 and A2676 chargers C1 and C2 interfaces support Apple2.4A, Samsung 5V2A, DCP, PD3.0 charging protocols.
