Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS collects all stable updates so far, making it easier to deploy a fresh 20.04 LTS installation that includes all available SRUs. Additionally, Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS has the latest hardware-enabled “HWE” stack, carried over from the newer Ubuntu series. The Linux kernel and related components were pulled in from Ubuntu 22.04 LTS under 20.04.5 LTS, which means there is now Linux 5.15 LTS, Mesa 22.0 for updated graphics driver support, and other related package updates.
Yesterday, the release process of Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS underwent a last-minute refactoring due to an issue with NVIDIA drivers, but Canonical engineers resolved the issue in time to keep this release on schedule.
