TikTok is experimenting with a new tool that will allow TikTok users to tip some creators directly on their profile.According to the tip feature video shared by TikTok creator Jera Bean this week, he noticed the feature in the app and applied for approval.
The new feature will directly attribute any tips provided to creators, which means that TikTok will not be drawn from it.
The screenshot of the application screen shows that in order to be eligible for this feature, the account must have a good reputation on the platform, have at least 100,000 fans, meet the age requirements, and agree to TikTok’s prompt terms. If creators meet these criteria, then they can apply for the tool-although it is not clear whether every applicant will be approved.
According to a follow-up video from the same creator shared on Thursday night, the application process seems to be progressing fairly quickly. Jera Bean’s account now displays a “tip” button, which leads the user to a page where the user can offer the creator $5, $10, $15 or a custom amount of their choice (minimum $1) tip. In addition, the platform allows tips to be sent anonymously.
A spokesperson for the company told The Verge: “We are always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience.”
It is reported that users must be at least 18 years old to send tips to creators, but users do not seem to need to really pay attention to them to give tips. Currently, it is being tested on a limited basis. TikTok declined to say how extensive the feature is currently for creators on its platform.
