Wear OS 3 is the most significant update to Google’s smartwatch OS in years, but it’s currently only available for a pairSamsungSmartwatches: Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, which were released last year. That means we haven’t experienced software without Samsung’s apps and services. Compared to Wear OS 2, the promised benefits of Wear OS 3 include longer battery life, improved load times, and smoother animations.
More Wear OS 3 watches are on the way, but it’s unclear exactly when they’ll arrive. Google’s upcoming Pixel watch will run the software, as will future high-end Fitbit devices. Updates to existing Wear OS 2 smartwatches from Mobvoi and Fossil are also coming later this year. A recent tweet from a Fossil support account suggested that Wear OS 3 could be coming to its watch in June or July, but the tweet has since been deleted, meaning that Fossil has yet to make an official announcement.
Montblanc’s Summit 3 comes with a typical set of smartwatch features. It supports step tracking, sleep monitoring, blood oxygen measurement and exercise tracking. Google Maps provides navigation, Google Pay provides payment, and Google Games can download other applications. The watch is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus processor.
Each Summit 3 smartwatch has two straps of different materials: one is leather and the other is rubber. Available colors for the Summit 3 include silver titanium with black leather and blue rubber straps, black titanium with black leather and rubber straps, and a combination of the two with green leather and black rubber straps .
All in all, it looks like a good smartwatch. It’s just a shame that it’s more than double the price of the Apple Watch Series 7.
