Since the completion of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project in 2014, South Water has become the main source of water for more than 140 million people in more than 280 counties and urban areas in more than 40 large and medium-sized cities such as Beijing and Tianjin.
On May 14 last year, a symposium on promoting the high-quality development of the follow-up project of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project was held in Nanyang City, Henan Province. Jiang Xuguang, chairman of the South-to-North Water Diversion Group, said that over the past year, the South-to-North Water Diversion Group has steadily promoted the high-quality development of follow-up projects and accelerated the construction of the main skeleton and arteries of the national water network.
The project of diverting the river to fill the Han River is the first major project to be started in the follow-up project of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. It plays an important role in giving full play to the water delivery potential of the middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, enhancing the water resources allocation capacity of the Han River Basin, and improving the water supply stability of the northern water receiving area.
Jiang Xuguang said that the South-to-North Water Diversion Group regards the start of construction of the project of diverting the river and filling the Han River as the top priority, and goes all out to promote the establishment of the project legal person, handling of pre-requisites, handling of approval procedures, preparation for bidding, and tackling major key technical problems. At present, various work is being carried out in full swing according to the established node goals to ensure that construction starts as soon as possible within the year.
Li Guoying, Minister of Water Resources, said at the symposium on in-depth promotion of the high-quality development of the follow-up project of the South-to-North Water Diversion held on May 13, that it is necessary to accelerate the planning and construction of the follow-up project of the South-to-North Water Diversion, focusing on advancing the preliminary work of the project of diverting the river from the middle route and deepening the follow-up project of the east route. Feasibility study and demonstration, promote the western route project planning, and actively cooperate with the overall planning revision work.
