It can be seen that there is a hexagonal black decorative piece on the front end, giving the impression of a grille, but only a body-colored panel is found inside. Compared to the BX4X, Solterra’s headlights are different from the rugged lower bumper design. But on the side, everything is the same, Solterra also has the same strangely shaped black plastic fender, and the only change in the tail is the slight change in the shape of the taillight. By the way, the wheels are also different.
Solterra has a real steering wheel and abandoned the BZ4X steering wheel (anyway, it was only used in China at the beginning, fortunately). The interior of the cabin is the same as the exterior. Subaru has only minor design differences, mainly in details such as the patterns on the center console and dashboard fascia. In the driver’s field of vision, there is a digital instrument panel, a large central touch screen with some tactile buttons, and the low instrument panel is made of an interesting fabric material. Solterra in the Japanese market showed off a radical orange interior, hoping it will be available in the United States.
Supporting Solterra and its BZ4X siblings is a jointly developed platform, which Subaru calls the e-Subaru global platform. It pairs a 71.4 kWh battery pack with one or two electric motors, depending on whether the consumer chooses front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Subaru said that the front-wheel-drive Solterra has a range of 330 miles under the Japanese cycle, while all-wheel drive is 285 miles. Solterra can accept DC fast charging speeds of up to 150 kilowatts, which should provide 80% of the power in about 30 minutes. In addition, it also has a heat pump, which can be used to reduce the mileage loss in cold weather and when using heated seats and steering wheels.
Subaru will provide Solterra with a choice of panoramic glass sunroofs or metal roofs with integrated solar panels. Solterra will also provide wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Subaru’s first fully automatic parking assistance system, smartcell phoneFunction as a key, 20-inch wheels and adaptive LED headlights.
Solterra will be launched globally in mid-2022, probably at the same time as BZ4X.
