The presentation revealed new details about the software that will help developers develop or port games for PSVR2.
Game development for PSVR2 will use the same software development kit (SDK) as PS5, making it easier for developers to create VR versions of existing PS5 games. It can also support games created in Unity or Unreal Engine to help developers port to and from other VR platforms to PSVR2.
The SDK environment also includes a number of programs to assist developers when testing games. The report mentions a program that can be used to test headset vibrations, such as footsteps and gunshots. A tool called Comfort Sample even includes “quizzes” to test a developer’s knowledge of what caused a particular bug.
No release date has been announced for PSVR2, but it’s confirmed that it will launch sometime in early 2023. PSVR2 will be unveiled at Tokyo Game Show 2022 in a few weeks’ time, showing off the first Resident Evil Village VR demo.
