Qualcomm today announced the launch of a series of new Snapdragon chips in its mid-level and entry-level product series: Snapdragon 778 Plus, 695, 680, and 480 Plus, which provide terminal manufacturers with options when selecting the best processor for mobile phones. More choices, in theory, there are more choices when customers want to buy a mobile phone.
The most eye-catching new chip is the Snapdragon 695, which replaces the Snapdragon 690 in Qualcomm’s lineup. Unlike the old model, the Snapdragon 695 will support both millimeter wave and 5G below 6GHz, which will help increase the data transmission speed, even if it is cheapcell phoneThe same is true (so far tend not to provide millimeter wave support), at the same time there is a considerable improvement in performance. Qualcomm promised to increase CPU performance by 15% and graphics rendering speed by 30% compared to 690.
The Snapdragon 680 is also a curious new product. It does not support 5G. It is a dedicated SoC for LTE. It is manufactured using the same more modern 6-nanometer process as the 695. It is mainly used to help fill the gaps in Qualcomm’s lineup. To meet the needs of companies that are still looking for pure 4G terminals (this can help cut costs in areas where 5G has not yet been deployed).
The other two chips are an updated version of the existing models, the Snapdragon 778G Plus and the Snapdragon 480 Plus. The former is an enhanced version of the standard 778G announced by the company earlier this year, and the latter is an upgraded version of the existing Snapdragon 480. Both models promise to improve performance compared to the non-enhanced version, although the improvement is not large. For example, the CPU of the 778G Plus increased from 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz, and the clock speed of the 480 Plus increased from 2.0GHz to 2.2GHz.
Four new chip platforms are expected to be launched later in the fourth quarter of 2021. Partners HMD,glory,Motorola,OPPO,alivewithMilletAll expressed interest in using at least some new Snapdragon chips.
