With the convening of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2021, Qualcomm has made a commitment to sustainable development. The chip maker said,It will achieve net zero emissions by 2040. Qualcomm said that by 2030, it will reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% on the basis of 2020. In the same year, it plans to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 25% on the basis of 2020.

For relying on TSMC like Qualcomm,SamsungFor companies that produce chips with other foundries, reducing Scope 3 emissions is the most challenging one for the company to reduce its environmental impact. According to Imec (the company recently announced aAppleThe Sustainable Chip Program of China estimates that about 75% of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with mobile devices are generated during manufacturing, and nearly half of them come from the chip manufacturing process.
