The Polestar 5 makes its debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Precept concept has the appearance of a luxury sedan, but the production version is expected to emphasize everyday driving dynamics rather than raw speed. However, judging by Polestar’s announcement about the production version of the car, its new model will be a huge hit.
This may not come as a surprise to Polestar fans, and the announcement wasn’t exactly sudden. The Chinese-European automaker has documented the evolution from the Precept to the Polestar 5 on its YouTube channel – for almost a year. Now, with the car’s specs revealed, there’s probably a sense that the last piece of the puzzle is in place and everyone can be properly excited.
Described as a “high-performance electric four-door GT with proper sports car credentials,” Polestar’s new electric car is more than a joke. Put your feet down, and you can stomp out one that produces a whopping 884 horsepower. A massive 663 pound-feet of torque helps the horsepower meet the demands of the road and provides impressive traction. The EV maker said the vehicle’s performance has been enhanced by combining strong electric motor engineering capabilities with advances in lightweight platform technology.
Polestar’s executives are very excited about the cars their company has created. Polestar UK R&D head Pete Allen describes the car as “a superb four-door GT and the heart of a true Polestar”. Chief Technology Officer and Head of R&D Jörg Brandscheid said the Polestar 5’s powertrain would be the new brand benchmark for its performance cars, while company CEO Thomas Ingenlath said the car’s progressive design and advanced engineering set the tone for Polestar’s future.
Sadly, there’s no information on top speed or 100km/h times, but Goodwood Festival of Speed attendees will get a glimpse of the Polestar 5 in action from June 23-26.
