Lenovo announced the foldable concept in May 2019, with the actual product shipping by the end of 2020. then,Microsoftstill under developmentSurfaceNeo, in addition to this, there is a specially designed for dual screenWindows10 version and a foldable device called Windows 10X.
Lenovo released the ThinkPad X1 Fold alongside Windows 10 Pro, and promised a Windows 10X version later when the OS was ready. Unfortunately, both Windows 10X and Microsoft’s own Surface Neo ended up being axed (multiple sources say the Neo is dead, but there’s no official confirmation from Microsoft).
The original ThinkPad X1 Fold had many shortcomings, and the operating system was only the first. it is powered byIntelOne of very few PCs with Lakefield processors, it debuted the company’s hybrid technology that laid the groundwork for everything it does today, but it wasn’t great.
The ThinkPad X1 Fold Gen 2 comes with a proper Intel 12th Gen mobile processor, along with Windows 11, a larger display, and more. It seems to solve all the pain points of the original generation.
More powerful performance
The Lakefield processors used in the first generation were bad, very bad. The Core i5-L16G7 has only five cores, only one of which is a performance core. It has a 7W TDP and sounds like an old Y-series chip.
The processor in the ThinkPad X1 Fold Gen 2 is an Intel 12th generation U9 processor. Lenovo hasn’t confirmed the SKU, but you might see the Core i7-1250U and Core i7-1260U, both 9W 10-core chips with two P cores, eight E cores, and 12 threads total.
Graphics are also greatly improved. The included Iris Xe graphics card has 96 execution units clocked at 950MHz.
bigger screen
The OLED screen is now 16.3 inches, which is a lot bigger than the original 13.3-inch display. The screen is still 4:3 and the resolution is 2560×2024. The reason for 4:3 is the same; if you fold the screen in a clamshell orientation, you get 3:2 on a 12-inch. Also impressive is the brightness of 600 nits, which is always good.
The larger screen also comes with a more extensive redesign. The screen is now nearly flat, whereas before there was enough clearance to fit a keyboard inside a folded PC. Now, there’s a little space around the bezel, so the screen doesn’t lie flat on itself. The keyboard and a new stand attach magnetically to the back of the folding PC.
You can also use more modes of your PC. You can stand it horizontally, now you can stand it vertically. The Bluetooth keyboard also attaches magnetically (if you will), so it doesn’t just stand out outdoors. Of course, if you fold the screen, you can put the keyboard inside, and the screen will automatically adjust to the top to show its content.
Accessories are better
While bringing a larger screen, Lenovo also brought a larger keyboard. This keyboard is full size with 1.35mm key travel. It’s the same keyboard you’ll find on the ThinkPad X1 Nano.
But the touchpad is different. The keyboard has a tactile touchpad more similar to the ThinkPad Z series. The physical buttons you usually see there have been replaced by tactile buttons. This means you can press them as buttons, or you can use them for extra touchpad space.
Appearance redesign
The ThinkPad X1 Fold Gen 2 isn’t covered in leather like its predecessor. The cover is now Recycled PET Woven Performance fabric, so the whole thing has a very different feel.
There are three USB Type-C ports, two of which are Thunderbolt 4. You’ll also find a nano-SIM slot, as Lenovo is once again offering a 5G option for the ThinkPad X1 Fold Gen 2.
The webcam is 5 million. It’s combined with an infrared camera for facial recognition, and Lenovo uses Intel’s Vision Sensing Controller (VSC) to automatically orient itself, so it should unlock your PC no matter how you look at it.
selling price
If you’re really looking forward to getting the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold Gen 2, you won’t have to wait that long. It will be available in November. It won’t be cheap though. Pricing starts at $2,499. While that does sound expensive, it’s the same price as the original ThinkPad X1 Fold.
