Back in 2013, European Space Agency astronaut Luca Palmitano was forced to end his spacewalk early because he had difficulty breathing after 1.5 liters of water entered his helmet. In 2015, the same aging suit was used on a spacewalk and nearly drowned another astronaut. NASA astronaut Terry Wirtz found free-floating water droplets in his helmet after completing his spacewalk in spacesuit 3005.
It is understood that in 2019, NASA launched a new spacesuit for the agency’s upcoming Artemis mission to the moon, but the deployment of the spacesuit was delayed due to a lack of funds. Therefore, NASA currently hopes to extend the life of the spacesuit to 2028. (Headquarters reporter Zhang Yingzhe)
