RTings.com’s test of how the AirPods Max handles noise isolation, updated Friday, warns that the introduction of firmware 4E71 has changed ANC. After the update, reports found the system blocked a little less noise in the mid-bass to high-bass range than previous firmware.
The scope of the report’s findings covers muffled rumblings such as vehicle motors, train movements and aircraft engines. After the update, users can expect to hear more of these sounds after the update than before – but this will vary based on each user’s hearing.
Even so, the report said that while the update did slightly change the level of isolation it provided, it was still a “relatively minor difference.” ANC still does a “very good” at reducing ambient noise andair conditionermachine and other sounds.
While there have been some low-level discussions about ANC differences since the firmware was introduced, appleThere hasn’t been any official confirmation of the change yet. Research by AppleInsider also shows that there has been no increase in service requests related to firmware or otherwise since the update.
