It is learned that LoveFrom, the design company of Apple’s former design director Jony Ive (Jony Ive), has recently set up a special award to recognize companies that are in a leading position in creating sustainable markets. The Terra Carta Medal designed by LoveFrom was produced in collaboration with the Sustainable Markets Initiative led by Prince Charles of the United Kingdom.
Terra Carta is a charter that provides a roadmap for companies to build a sustainable future by harnessing the power of nature.
Ivey’s Terra Carta Medal aims to reflect Terra Carta’s values, including the reunification of mankind and the earth through the endowment of fundamental rights and values to nature. The design features oak leaves, acorns, ferns, magnolia and impatiens, as well as various birds, butterflies and bees.
The text on the medal also uses a special LoveFrom Serif font, which is not available in the market. It is specially made for the LoveFrom project.
It is reported that the Serif font is inspired by the Baskerville font. When talking about the creation of LoveFrom Serif, Ivey said: “We spent so long to create a font that we will use for recognition: we don’t want a logo, we want something gentler, more similar Yu Dialogue. We think we will use this font for our friends; we can’t think of a better way to take advantage of the years of work around Terra Carta, and I think it works really well.”
Other inspirations include the sacred geometry of nature as well as William Morris (a famous British designer), Joseph Frank (a winner of the Austrian National Architecture Highest Award), and Nick Knight (a highly creative and influential British photographer) And Christopher Marley (naturalist artist). “We have strengthened the resilience and reproduction of nature by allowing these natural elements to gently control the image,” Ivey said. “This is a visual celebration of the power of nature. These natural forms are far from superficial decorations. It’s something that brings design to life.”
Ivey said that the way he designed at LoveFrom was that heAppleWay of design.
“In Apple’s decades, one of my concerns is the idea: If we are disciplined in thinking and practice, we will be responsible for our thinking, and as a result, we can move forward in the implementation process lightly. This has really become a core part of the way we look at problems and the way we practice.”
Currently, L’Oréal, Siemens Energy and AstraZeneca have been awarded the first Terra Carta Medal for their commitment to speed up action-limiting global warming to 1.5°C by 2050. The Terra Carta Medal will be awarded to different companies every year in the future.
Ivey left Apple in 2019 and founded LoveFrom with fellow designer Marc Newson. At that time, Apple stated that Ivey will continue to participate in Apple’s design work, and Apple will be one of LoveFrom’s main customers. LoveFrom has also worked with Airbnb and Ferrari.
