In addition to a decline in 2022, IDC says these markets will contract further in 2023. This will be due to slowing consumer demand,educateDemand has been met, and businesses are being squeezed out of new hardware due to weak economic conditions.
Taken together, these two areas are expected to decline by 2.6% in 2023 before rebounding again and seeing growth in 2024.

Commenting on these expectations, IDC’s Linn Huang said:
“As economic headwinds gather pace, we expect deteriorating consumer sentiment to lead to further contraction in the consumer market over the next six quarters. A recovery in the economy during the next major refresh cycle is likely to drive some growth in the peripheral years we forecast .While the volume will not reach the peak of the pandemic, we expect the consumer market to move more upmarket.”
IDC’s forecast for this year’s global PC device shipments is 462.1 million units, down 10.8 percent from the previous year. In the longer term, it expects shipments to start growing again, with a total of 477.7 million in 2026.
