News on October 29, according to foreign media reports, local time on Thursday,Interim CEO (CEO) Mark Fields of Hertz, a car rental company, said that Hertz may increase Tesla’s electric car orders to 200,000 units.
On Monday, Hertz announced that it will order 100,000 Model 3 cars from Tesla to form the largest electric car rental fleet in North America. Of the 100,000 vehicles, only half will be used in Hertz’s car fleet, which can be rented by customers at airports and different locations, and the other half will be provided to Uber drivers.
This news pushed Tesla’s market value to more than $1 trillion, surpassing the combined market value of its five major competitors Toyota, Volkswagen, Daimler, Ford and General Motors.
Fields did not discuss the cost of Tesla cars, but he revealed that fully automated driving (FSD) options are not included. As for whether Hertz enjoys the price discounts enjoyed by major customers, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that there is no discount for 100,000 electric vehicles purchased by Hertz, which is the same as the price when consumers buy it.
In addition to announcing that it will order 100,000 Model 3 vehicles from Tesla, Hertz also announced on Monday that users who lease Model 3 from it will be able to use the Tesla Supercharger network, which includes more than 3,000 supercharger stations.
In a recent interview, Fields pointed out that if Hertz’s cooperation with Uber is successful, Hertz may provide Uber with up to 150,000 Tesla vehicles in the next three years. Then, Hertz needs to order another 100,000 cars from Tesla, which will double Hertz’s total order volume to 200,000.
