GameStop stock price incident adaptation spoof movie “Stupid Gold” starring announced
The film is based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Antisocial Network.
The new film is expected to start shooting in October. Mezrich himself confirmed the cast on Twitter.
The film will tell the story of the previous incident in the share price of American game retailer GameStop. GameStop’s stock price continues to soar in 2021. Some hedge funds took a short position in GameStop stock, and as a result, many retail investors took advantage of the stock to buy at high prices, causing some hedge funds to lose a lot. The event became a legendary story in the tech world and on Wall Street. While the event was still hot, MGM buried the rights to Mezrich’s book and announced it would make it into a film.
Ben Mezrich’s previous bestseller, “Accidental Billionaires,” tells the story of the founding of Facebook, which was later adapted into a well-received film, “The Social Network.”
