It is reported that Amazon launched a similar service called “Photo On Delivery” as early as 2018 to prove to customers that the package has been delivered, but it is still only available in certain regions.
Amazon claims the company uses the photos to verify package delivery addresses, perform quality control, and follow up on issues. Users may opt out of the program at any time if not required.
For FedEx, a similar service helps recipients know if a package has been delivered to their doorstep, so that it can be avoided if it is not picked up in time.
Registered customers can be viewed through FedEx Delivery Manager, but unregistered customers can also be viewed through the official query tool (portal), enter the tracking number to view the photos that were left behind during delivery.
The plan is for FedEx to roll out a pilot to “select markets” before opening it to North American customers during the holiday season.
