At the Connect conference on Thursday, Facebook revealed that it is developing a new high-end VR headset code-named Project Cambria. The company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that as an “independent” and “high-end” product, its positioning and cost are higher than the $299 Oculus Quest 2.
In terms of functions, Cambria will also have some unique secrets. For example, the new sensor in the device can maintain contact with the user’s avatar’s eyes and reflect facial expressions.
In this way, users can better engage in virtual interactions with others. Another key point of the Cambria headset is the mixed reality (MR) experience.
With the support of new sensors and reconstruction algorithms, Facebook claims that Cambria can present real objects with depth and perspective.
Finally, Cambria has new optics that improve visual fidelity. Facebook promised to share more details in 2022 and mentioned that third-party developers are already actively preparing.
