Benefiting from the unique geographical advantage of the country’s average altitude of more than 1,000 meters, the Maloti Mountains in the Kingdom of Lesotho has the only ski resort in sub-Saharan Africa, the African Ski Resort. This ski resort is open to tourists from June to August every year. Although the length of the ski slope is only one kilometer, there are still many tourists who come here to experience the feeling of skiing in Africa.
Since snow is rarely seen in Africa, most of the tourists who come to ski here are tourists from neighboring South Africa. This year, due to the rare high temperature weather, many European tourists have also been welcomed here.
In order to attract tourists, African ski resorts not only build ski parks, but also hold various colorful activities from time to time. A series of competitions such as snowboarding were held here just last month, attracting many professional skiers and enthusiasts from all over the world.
Relying on the good natural environment, Lesotho vigorously develops eco-tourism. In recent years, some hotels, mountain resorts and a national park have been built, attracting about 1 million tourists every year. As an emerging project, skiing is gradually becoming the backbone of the local tourism industry.
