Kyle Rittenhouse, 18, is on trial for shooting two demonstrators and wounding a third person during a racial justice protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 2020. The teenager was charged with homicide, attempted homicide, and reckless endangerment with deadly weapons, but he insisted that he was innocent and said he was in self-defense.
According to the New York Times, during today’s cross-examination of Rittenhouse, Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger prepared to show a video of Rittenhouse’s fatal shooting at Joseph Rosenbaum. Defense lawyer Richards objected that Binger planned to useiPadThe pinch zoom function to zoom in part of the video may distort the image.
According to the trial video posted on Twitter by The Recount, Richards said: “AppleThe company’s iPad has artificial intelligence, which can observe things in three dimensions and logarithms. It uses artificial intelligence, or their logarithms, to create what they think is happening. Therefore, this is not actually an enhanced video. It is Apple’s iPad program that created what it thinks exists, not something that must exist.”
In addition to obfuscating algorithms and logarithms, Richards admitted that he did not understand the technology behind the so-called biased iPad artificial intelligence. Binger believes that jurors will understand the process of magnifying images using mobile devices, because this practice is a common part of modern life. In addition, he said that the zoom operation does not affect the integrity of the image.
In response to objections, Binger believes that if the defense disagrees with the iPad playback, expert testimony should be provided. Judge Bruce Schroeder said that the responsibility for proving that zooming will not change the video picture lies with the prosecution.
