Kiwi Farms (official Chinese name “kiwi ostrich farm”) is a notorious American forum dedicated to finding “lolcows” (meaning people worthy of being laughed at)” on the Internet, they like to find people who seem vulnerable, sensitive and easily hurt of people as targets, and evil as a video game, doing everything in their power to make victims feel mentally overwhelmed and have fun with it. Targets targeted by kiwi farms are often harassed in an organized and persistent manner.
The cyber violence that flooded the kiwi farm has caused many people, including the genius simulator programmer Near, to become depressed and commit suicide. Concerns about Kiwi Farms have grown after transgender YouTuber and Twitch host Clara Sorrenti (Keffals) was targeted in a dangerous campaign of harassment by users of the site. Last month, Kiwi Farms users lashed out at Sorrenti by giving police false alerts that a violent crime was being planned, causing police to flock to victims’ homes.
Sorrenti later went into hiding and launched a #DropKiwifarms campaign, urging Cloudflare to stop serving Kiwi Farms. The hashtag was shared by users on Twitter, some of whom also revealed the harassment they experienced at the hands of Kiwi Farms users.
Cloudflare initially rejected calls to drop Kiwi Farms, calling it an “abuse of power.” In an update posted to its website last week, Cloudflare outlined its policy on abusive content, made an argument for maintaining the service, but made no explicit reference to Kiwi Farms.
