According to the latest data released by Canalys, after the strong growth in the past year, tablet shipments decreased during the July-September period, down 15% compared to the third quarter of 2020. Tablet PC shipments totaled 37.7 million units in the third quarter of 2021, compared with 44.3 million units a year ago.
Apple still dominates the market, with 15.2 million shipments during this period and a market share of 40.4%.SamsungRanked second with 7.2 million tablet shipments and 19.1% market share, while Lenovo ranked third with approximately 4.3 million units shipped and 11.3% market share.
Amazon (2.8 million) andHuawei(2.5 million) ranks in the top five, but the market share of these two companies has fallen sharply every year. Amazon’s market share has fallen by 44.5 percentage points, while Huawei has shrunk by 50.9 percentage points.
In terms of regions, tablet shipments in all major regions have declined, except for the Asia-Pacific region. Shipments in the Asia-Pacific region rose by 23% in the third quarter, while Europe is at the other end, down 27% compared to the same period last year.
Despite the bleak performance in the third quarter, Canalys predicts that, except for the Asia-Pacific region, demand for tablets is not optimistic in most regions.
