The six passengers were investor and NS-19 suborbital travel passenger Evan Dick (Evan Dick), electrical engineer and former NASA test chief Katya Echazarreta (Katya Echazarreta), business jet pilot Ha Hamish Harding, 28-year-old civil engineer Victor Correa Hespanha, commercial real estate adventurer Jaison Robinson, private equity Company co-founder Victor Vescovo.
Among them, Evan Dick, also a sailor and motorcyclist, participated in the New Shepard NS-19 suborbital travel mission last December. This mission will be his second flight aboard the New Shepard vehicle. He has said that on the NS-19 mission, reaching space in a capsule felt like crawling out of the ocean after living under the surface for a lifetime.
Katia Echazzareta will be the first Mexican-born woman to fly into space. She received her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from UCLA in 2019, worked at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory for nearly 4 years after graduation, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Its seats are sponsored by the non-profit organization Human Space.
Hamish Harding is chairman of business jet brokerage Action Aviation and a business jet pilot. In 2019, he and former ISS commander Terry Virts set a new record for the world’s fastest circumnavigation in a Gulfstream G650ER aircraft. He has traveled to the South Pole twice, and in 2021, he and Viktor Veskovo dived to a depth of 36,000 feet (about 10,973 meters) in a two-person submersible.
In addition, Victor Correa Hespaña will be the second Brazilian to fly into space, and he was sponsored by purchasing NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) to get a seat on this flight.
Blue Origin uses a rocket to vertically launch the manned space capsule to about 100 kilometers above the earth, and then the rocket returns to the ground on its own. The whole process lasts about 10 minutes.
