“Burn it up~”
Burning poop, for environmental protection
According to the relevant introduction given by Samsung, this toilet can recover urine through a purification system; while the solid waste will be dehydrated, dried, and finally burned to ashes.
In addition to burning poop, the toilet is energy-efficient and has excellent wastewater treatment capabilities, meeting the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s performance requirements for domestic bathroom fixtures, as well as commercialization requirements.
In layman’s terms, the development of this toilet is mainly for environmental protection.
Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology is responsible for the basic design of the toilet, as well as component and modular technology development.
After 3 years of research and development, Samsung finally created a prototype of a standard household toilet and equipped it with black technology.
The core technologies include thermal and biological treatment technologies, which can kill pathogens in human excrement and make the discharged sewage and solids more environmentally friendly.
According to Samsung, the water treated by biological purification through this system can be completely recycled.
In August this year, Samsung announced at a conference in Seoul that it had completed the research and development of the core technology of the toilet and successfully tested the prototype.
Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong also met with Bill Gates at the event to discuss the results of the “Reinventing the Toilet” project.
According to the World Health Organization and UNICEF:
About 3.6 billion people (about 45.7% of the global population) still use unsafe sanitation facilities, and 500,000 children under the age of 5 die each year from diseases caused by water and sanitation.
Samsung plans to provide free licenses of related patents to developing countries during the commercialization stage of toilets, contributing to global toilet reform.
Gates has been following “poo” for a long time
In fact, Bill Gates’ attention to the problem of human excrement is not an overnight thing.
In 2015, Bill Gates visited a manure treatment plant. Here, he sees piles of feces moving up a conveyor belt and falling into large bins, where they are boiled and processed, initially with clean water.
Gates also tasted the drinking water that the feces ended up with.
and says:
Tastes great! Better than any other bottled water I’ve had before!
Also, back in 2011, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation took note of water safety and sanitation issues and launched the “Toilet Rebuild Challenge”.
It aims to inspire everyone to create safe and effective new manure treatment solutions, reduce the sanitation problems of residents in poverty-stricken areas, and improve the recycling rate of water resources.
China has also participated in this challenge – in 2013, the Chinese government pledged US$5 million (about 34.528 million yuan) to support Chinese innovators in developing and producing “next-generation convenience tools.”
Subsequently, the foundation also cooperated with official institutions in India, South Africa and other places to continue to promote the “toilet revolution”.
If this toilet that can burn poop is successfully promoted in the future, it should bring a lot of improvement to “convenience and hygiene”.
Emmm… But if you have diarrhea, do you need to use a fire to collect the juice?
