Matt Damon as Vaccaro and Ben Affleck as Nike co-founder Phil Knight about Nike signing rising superstar basketball player Michael Jordan into the rankings in the mid-’80s A long-term effort made by the third shoe company.
An endorsement seemed impossible at the time, but thanks to maverick sneaker salesman Vaccaro, it would become the most important relationship between a sports brand and an athlete. The deal kickstarted the global multi-billion-dollar contemporary sneaker industry and helped basketball achieve the same.
At the heart of the film is Vaccaro’s relentless pursuit to sign Jordan, who will come into contact with many of the latter’s people around him – family, especially his strong, dynamic mother, as well as former coaches, advisors and friends, while Jordan’s character will not appear in the film.
