On the evening of October 26, the official website of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee announced that at the site of “Together to the Future-Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Countdown 100 Days Theme Activities”, the medals of the current Winter Olympics and Paralympics were solemnly released. According to the official website, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics medals consist of a ring and a center to form a card body. The image is derived from the ancient Chinese jade bi, concentric circles, with a total of five rings.
The five rings are concentric and concentric, expressing the Chinese cultural connotation of “Heaven and Earth, and the Heart of the People”. It also symbolizes the Olympic spirit that brings the people of the world together and shares the glory of the Winter Olympics.
The shape of the medals is simple and concise, reflecting the Beijing Winter Olympics’ “simple, safe, and exciting” requirements, and echoing the “golden inlaid jade” medals of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, demonstrating the cultural heritage of the “Double Olympic City”.
The front center of the medal is engraved with the Olympic Five Rings logo, and the full English name of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics (XXIV Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022) is engraved around it. The ring is dented to reflect the traditional string pattern jade bib. The lightly carved decorative patterns are all from traditional Chinese patterns. The ice and snow patterns express the characteristics of the Winter Olympics, and the auspicious cloud patterns convey auspicious meaning.
The center of the back of the medal is engraved with the emblem of the Beijing Winter Olympics, and the full Chinese name of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics (the 24th Winter Olympics in Beijing 2022) is engraved around it. The ring is engraved with 24 points and movement arcs, which are inspired by ancient astronomical maps, symbolizing the vast starry sky, the harmony between man and nature, and also symbolizing athletes at the 24th Winter Olympics, such as stars and brilliant achievements.
The name of the competition event of the winning athlete is engraved on the outermost ring on the back of the medal.
The medal lanyard uses traditional mulberry silk weaving technology, and the Beijing Winter Olympics emblem, core graphics and the words “Beijing2022” are printed on the ice and snow shading. The lanyard is selected in red, which is consistent with the cultural characteristics of the Chinese New Year and expresses the holiday blessings to the athletes.
The medal box is made of lacquer and bamboo as the main materials, which not only highlights the characteristics of Chinese culture, but also conforms to the concept of “Green Olympics” and sustainability.
Based on the principle of “two Olympics are equally exciting”, the Paralympic Games medals and the Winter Olympic Games medals use the same image source, and the designs are the same. The center of the front of the medal is engraved with the International Paralympic Committee logo, surrounded by the full English name of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games (Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games) and gold, silver, and bronze braille.
The center of the back of the medal is engraved with the emblem of the Beijing Paralympic Winter Games, and the full Chinese name of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games (Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games) is engraved around it. The medal ring is engraved with 13 points and the arc of the movement. The name of the competition event of the winning athlete is engraved on the outermost ring on the back of the medal.
The Beijing Paralympic Games medal strap and medal box follow the design of the Winter Olympics medal belt and medal box.
