As a result, it not only poses new challenges to the performance of A15 and M1, but also clearly targetsiPhoneThis ProMotion screen of 13 Pro.
Regarding this ProMotion screen, we would like to say a few more words,AppleOn the second day of the press conference, the media reported on it that “iPhone finally used high refresh screen”.
But its real selling point is actually not high brush, but “adaptive variable refresh rate”, which provides different refresh rates when needed according to the content.
Among the 12 refresh rates provided by ProMotion, the high-level brush positions are only 80 and 120, and more refresh rates are lower than 60Hz, which saves more power when displaying relatively static images.
A15 test
What is the performance of the original God on the ProMotion screen at 120 frames? We also found the iPhone 13 Pro Max and conducted a series of tests.
First of all, the normal operation is to connect PerfDog, set the frame rate to 120, reload, monitor the rendering frame rate display, and 120 frames are already topped in the loading screen.
Entering the game officially, running and fighting on this familiar grassland feels very similar to the past. The rendering frame rate is always locked at 60 frames, and there is no change even when switching perspectives or standing still in the grass. What is going on here?
Because we suspected that PerfDog might have the possibility of inaccurate monitoring, we simply found a high-speed camera and took pictures at a rate of 960 frames, and then the number of frames went by: if the picture changes every 8 frames, it means that the screen is refreshed at 120Hz. , If it changes every 16 frames, it is 60Hz.
After counting the strobe for a long time, we came to the conclusion that the screen is indeed at 60Hz to display the content. Although the new version of the original God adapts to 120 frames, it can’t support the A15 at all.
Strictly speaking, it is not completely unaffordable: in the grassland, it is 60 frames. Open the settings page, and you can get up to 120 frames, so that people can enjoy the 120-frame high-brush settings page.
There is another way to get 120 frames: adjust the picture quality to a very low level, load it again and then it really comes to the 120-frame grassland, and I see the 120-frame Amber. It’s a pity that the good times didn’t last long, so it lasted for about 15 seconds, and then it went up and down between 60 and 120, struggling desperately.
Switching to a simple scene like a temple where there are only stones around, whether it is still or running, 120 frames each time can last a little longer, the longest is about 30 seconds, at least it can show two punches with Qiuqiu people.
Along with the 120-frame Yuanshen, it was an iPhone that was too hot to hold. This gave me a guess: if heat dissipation is enhanced, will this 120-frame be a bit more realistic?
So I installed a cooling back clip on the iPhone, and then opened the unit’s freezer full of ice cream to letcell phoneStayed in the freezer and had another test.
The result is that the original god is more stable at 60 frames, and at 120 frames, there is no improvement.
Although I am very reluctant to accept it, I still have to admit it here: With the performance of the A15, the original 120 frames can only be adapted to loneliness.
M1 test
Since the rendering speed of A15 can’t keep up, let’s try the 12.9-inch M1.iPadHow does Pro perform.
In the lowest picture quality, iPad Pro achieves the real 120-frame freedom of the original god. About 5 minutes after the full 120 frames, large fluctuations began to appear, but unlike the iPhone, the iPad Pro fell on the basis of 120 and immediately returned, and the iPhone fell on the basis of 60 and then fell back. .
After 30 minutes of continuous testing, iPad Pro can still run against 120, which is worthy of M1.
Turning up to medium quality, the iPad Pro dropped to 60 after staying on 120Hz for about two minutes, but it can reach about 100 when struggling upward. After switching to a simple scene like a temple, the frame rate has increased to about 100, and occasionally it can reach 120, and the body heats up significantly.
After continuing to increase to extremely high quality, the iPad Pro completely surrendered. One minute after entering the game, the frame rate began to drop, and after two minutes, it was completely below 60 frames. Even after switching to the temple scene, the frame rate did not improve significantly.
After we forcibly attached the heat dissipation back clip to the heating part of the iPad Pro, the 120-frame maintenance time did not increase, but the heat dissipation back clip also heated up. It can be seen that the 120 frames of the original gods put the pressure on the processor. quite big.
Summarize
At this point, we can find that the original god that supports 120Hz eventually conquered the A15 of the iPhone 13 Pro and the M1 of the iPad Pro, and settled on the throne of performance testing software. These two devices cannot run smoothly for a long time.
The A15 is mainly stuck in a slightly insufficient performance, while the M1 has sufficient performance, but even with the size of the iPad, it is impossible to ignore the impact of heat on the performance. If you want to stably experience the 120-frame Yuanshen without any discount, you may have to wait for a stronger chip.
