The password management service NordPass, based on its research, publishes a list of the 200 most common passwords every year. The list details the password itself, how long it takes to crack it, and how many times it has appeared in their research.
If you guessed the most common password is “123456”. This incredibly common password has appeared more than 103 million times in NordPass’ research, and it can be cracked in less than a second. In fact, every password in the top ten and all passwords in the top fifty can be cracked in one second. The second to fifth passwords are “123456789”, “12345”, “qwerty” and “password”.
On the contrary, “1g2w3e4r”, “gwerty123”, “myspace1” and “michelle” all ranked as the hardest passwords on the list with three hours of cracking time. NordPass also identified the countries most affected by the data breach, with the United States, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, France, Italy and Germany topping the list.
